For years, vibrant Serbian diaspora in the UK, led by the London Sport Society, in collaboration with other football and tennis clubs and organization, has been driving force behind many sports events fostering a love for sports among young people from Balkan countries residing in the UK. This year’s Balkan Cup football event, held on 15 June, was a testament to the growing popularity of these gatherings, not only among children but also adults.
The event was well-organized and attended, with many children and young adults. The competitive spirit was noticeable as teams fought for victory, and the joy of the winners was overwhelming. Even those who didn’t clinch victory shared in the camaraderie, knowing that events like these strengthen bonds within the Balkan community.
Vesna Collins BSCC Board Director:
"This year, I’m proud to share that the British-Serbian Chamber of Commerce (BSCC) played a crucial role as one of the event partners. Their recognition of the importance of community-driven sports events is commendable.
It’s heartwarming to see organizations like the BSCC invest not only in business ties but also in fostering cultural connections. As a representative of the BSCC, handing out medals and awards to jubilant participants felt like sprinkling a bit of Balkan pride onto each winner.
The event received generous support, including gift donations from reputable Serbian sports clubs such as Red Star Football Club and Partizan Basketball Club. These clubs, along with other sponsors like Clamping company, all wholeheartedly champion the sports spirit among young people.
The event concluded on a high note. Families and friends gathered to savour Serbian culinary delights—perhaps some hearty dishes, a sip of rakija, and homemade cakes. It’s heartwarming to see that these events not only bring smiles to children’s faces but also create lasting memories for parents.
In summary, the Balkan Cup on 15 June was more than just a sports competition; it was a celebration of culture, community, and shared passion. Kudos to all the organizers, sponsors, and participants who made it a memorable day"!
