Newly appointed BSCC Chair Lord Kulveer Ranger

On 25th February 2025, the BSCC Board voted to appoint Lord Ranger as our new Chair.

Lord Ranger of Northwood is a distinguished member of the House of Lords with a proven track record of leveraging technology to transform public services and drive innovation across various sectors. Over his twenty-five-year career, he has established himself as a key figure at the intersection of politics, public service, and frontier technology.

Throughout his career, Lord Ranger has been instrumental in several high-impact projects. He played a crucial role in implementing the London Oyster card, revolutionizing urban transportation. While working alongside Boris Johnson, then Mayor of London, Lord Ranger was responsible for transport and environmental policy and established the first Digital Office for London. His leadership led to significant initiatives such as the iconic cycle hire scheme, the development of Tech City, and the initial plans for the introduction of electric vehicles. He also contributed substantially to London's Olympic preparations, the England 2018 World Cup bid, and the advocacy for the Crossrail project.

In the corporate sphere, Lord Ranger applied his expertise as a senior executive at Atos, a global leader in digital transformation. He led strategy and corporate communications across Northern Europe, Asia-Pacific, and India, demonstrating his ability to bring innovative solutions to diverse markets. His influence extends to several prestigious boards. He has served on the board of Transport for London, Bristol 2015 European Green Capital City, and was part of the international steering group for C40 Cities. He also served as a board member at techUK for six years and currently sits on the West Midlands Digital Advisory Board, supporting the development of sustainable digital skills, businesses, and innovation.

As an international public speaker and regular media contributor, Lord Ranger frequently shares his insights on the future of technology, including AI, digital governance, and regulatory models. He is known for his ability to communicate complex ideas clearly, driving change and garnering support for innovative solutions. Lord Ranger brings a unique blend of political acumen, technological insight, and strategic vision to his work. He remains dedicated to exploring how technology can create a more connected, efficient, and sustainable future. He is also a member of the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee, Co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Digital Money and Digital Markets, and Vice-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for AI.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Lord Ranger is an avid supporter of Tottenham Hotspur FC and Test cricket. He is deeply committed to raising funds for children’s charities such as Teenage Cancer Trust, Childline, Save the Children, and Nordoff Robbins through The Truants Foundation, bringing the same passion to his personal interests as he does to his professional endeavors.
