The country's rail transport of goods via railroad is cost-effective, and through Pan European Corridors X and VII, Serbia offers access to all European destinations. Recently Serbia outlined a number of investments in the country's railway networks as part of the Serbian Government's €12bn (RSD1.41trn) plan to revitalise infrastructure over the next four years ahead of the Expo 2027 in Belgrade. A new stadium is being built to host the 2027 event, with the wider Expo 2027 complex including its own railway system and Belgrade is building its first metro line and its first international speed train connection to Budapest.
Alternatively, Serbia generates 10% of its GDP from the ICT sector, among the top four export sectors, along with steel, cars, and agriculture. According to Serbia's Statistics Office, there were over 3,354 firms in Serbia's tech sector in Q1 2022 employing 47,609 people. Major employers in this sector include prominent U.S. companies and their affiliates. Serbian tech companies produce software for industries ranging from agriculture to medicine, as well as tracking and cloud applications, online games, and testing. They also run call centres and customer helplines, ranging from low-skilled to very high-tech.
