Countdown to CBAM: Navigating compliance and Seizing opportunities

On 1st July 2024 we were delighted to host the online Workshop „Countdown to CBAM: Navigating compliance and Seizing opportunities“. The CBAM topic is raising more interest than ever and with our partners and members we have organised a great online event. We are so grateful for the partnership with Ms. Biljana Braithwaite, founder of Sustenieri partners, Mr. Miloš Tipsarević and Dr. Boris Mavra, founders of CBAM Tracking Company and Mr. Branko Gabrić, Council at Gecic Law. We are also pleased with Workshop moderating delivered by our colleague Dr. Andrija Vujicic, BDM of BSCC.

The Workshop covered seven important topics regarding CBAM, but also highlighted vital position of regulation within ESG agenda. Ms. Braithwaite as perhaps the greatest authority on ESG in the region delivered great presentation with strong statement that timely adaptation to CBAM and aligning business practices with broader ESG can enhance reputational and financial benefits for all stakeholders and create significant advantages for companies in long term.

The core of CBAM Workshop was on providing the answer to the seven key challenges of compliance with the new regulation that is already in transitional phase and with full implementation from 2026. Leading experts and consultants in CBAM Mr. Miloš Tipsarević and Dr. Boris Mavra with support of Mr. Branko Gabrić for the legal position of regulation have made outstanding presentations of disclosing key demands regarding CBAM that concerned stakeholders so much:

·       Supply Chain Transparency

·       Verification process

·       Indirect Emissions

·       Extending CBAM

·       Tax Rebates

·       Other ETS Schemes

·       and finally Who Will Pay the Bill?

After the presentation our experts answered all the questions. Many attendees of the Workshop is a great indication of attention for the CBAM topic and thus the BSCC arranged the poll on interest for the live CBAM event this October in Belgrade with majority expressing interest for the future event.

The success of CBAM Workshop is twofold. First it has presented to wider public the expertise and authority of our members in field of ESG and CBAM and second it was a great example of cooperation between BSCC and its members on important topics for companies-exporters and other stake holders.
